St Dominic's Trio 2/27/15

Friday, February 27: 9:00pm
Since forming in 2002, St Dominic’s Trio has performed hundreds of shows, telling nearly half a dozen jokes in the process. Several people have noticed that drummer Dave Haugen looks a bit like Gary Busey, and they confess that it's a big reason why they keep coming back. An offshoot of the Minneapolis Van Morrison cover band The Belfast Cowboys, St Dominic's Trio's CD "Switch" features the full horn section of Belfast Cowboys, and was produced by Rich Mattson. Available at CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon.

Paddy Wagon 3/14/15

Saturday, March 14: 12pm
On their website, this Twin Cities-based pub staple calls their metier "Irish music with twang," and that’s about as apt a description as any. Comprising mostly traditional tunes and songs, the band is particularly notable for the sterling vocal harmonies that emanate from the speakers; the instrumental interplay is equal to any around, and they’re not shy about throwing in a curve on their new album— say the speedy harmonica workout on “The Little Beggerman” or the trumpet solo version of “Danny Boy. There also is a nice couple of covers of Van Morrison’s “Sweet Thing” and Ralph McTell’s “Streets of London.”
